Witness #2: Abel

1 November 2013

In the account of Cain and Abel, everyone remembers, “Oh, yeah, Cain killed his brother, he was the first murderer.” While this is true, it misses the main point of the Biblical record.

The fact that Abel was ABLE to offer a sacrifice that God would accept is the amazing focus of this account. Without the grace of God, Abel would not have offered anything in faith. He quite possibly could have offered the exact same gift but for prideful reasons and not faith in God. It is the faith behind the action that determines whether God views it as “good” or not.

And here is the part that gives God the most glory and us a joyful hope: Jesus Christ is the Author of that faith Abel used to offer up an acceptable sacrifice to God. The faith that you and I have in God has the same Author, Jesus Christ.

Therefore, WE CAN PLEASE GOD!

Amazing.
